Visit of Dr Park Jin, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, to the College of Europe in Bruges

On Thursday, 24 September 2026, we were pleased to welcome Dr PARK Jin, CBE, Chairman of the Advisory Council of the KAIST Center for Science Diplomacy and former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, to our Bruges campus for a keynote address and exchange with our students.

Drawing on his extensive experience in diplomacy, public service and international affairs, Dr Park reflected on the rise of “technopolitics” and the growing role of AI, semiconductors, quantum technologies, robotics and energy in shaping international relations. He also highlighted how technological interdependence is making cooperation increasingly important in a world where no country can master every part of the innovation ecosystem.

A particular focus was placed on the relationship between the Republic of Korea and the European Union, and on how stronger cooperation in science, technology and innovation can bring the two partners even closer despite the geographical distance between them.

The conversation also looked ahead to the next generation. Dr Park shared advice with our students on preparing for careers in a world where diplomacy, policy and technology are becoming ever more closely connected, stressing the importance of understanding technological change while keeping human judgment at the centre.
