The concept, based to a large extent on the objectives and recommendations outlined in the EU Annual Reports on Conflict Prevention, aims to strengthen conflict sensitivity, enhance political dialogue with major partners, foster the sharing of expertise in various fields, and increase the overall capacity through practical skills building of the EU institutions and member states to prevent violent conflicts. In this context, four two-day workshops organised in collaboration with the EU-Presidencies will deepen the linkage between conflict prevention and, respectively, climate change, the fight against traffic of small arms, the role of the media, and the religious aspects of conflict. Each workshop is composed of an open conference on the first day and a closed meeting on the second day. The closed meeting will allow the exchange of views and sharing of sensitive information in order to coordinate appropriate efforts and activities. This will be followed by a training programme for EU officials, to support capacity-building in conflict analysis, at both the member state and EU institutional levels, as well as the development of instruments for the implementation of efficient early action in cooperation with other actors.
