Aim The project focuses on the cataloging and analysis of best practices in e-learning (particularly in the digital literacy field) targeting children between 5 and 12 years old. The aim of the project is to gather relevant information in relation to successful practices (in terms of products, resources, methodologies and experiences) that have been implemented and tested nationally and/or locally, particularly on how to teach children to use new technology and how to teach children to use new technology as a learning tool. After this collecting phse, a team of experts will analyse a selection of those practices (i.e. those identified as the best and the most transferable examples) to provide models of e-learning and digital literacy to be spread and exploited at a wider EU level. Therefore, the final aim of the project will be to disseminate its important results through the dense network of contacts provided by the project partners. The Chips project is being developed with the support of the European Commission (DG Education and Culture). Main developments Currently the CHIPs project is gathering information on already developed and successful e-learning practices for children between 5 and 12. To do this, the project team is using two forms: a short, technical form - which gathers basic information concerning each best practice and a long form - which gathers detailed information concerning the methodology and results of the experience. The forms are also available on the prject website (www.chipsproject.org) and they can be filled in on-line. During the next phase of the project, the project team will analyse each practice and it will structure the selected experiences/projects into catalogue which will be published and distributed widely. With the aim of stimulating exchange of information, cooperation, networking and the creation of further partnerships to develop ICT for children, the CHIPs catalogue will include a description (activities and sectors of interest, list of relevant projects etc.) and the contact details of each organisation which provided best practices.
