China Central Television + recently filmed an event entitled "Governing Globalisation in a World Economy in Transition" organised by the Institute of European Democrats and the Madariaga – College of Europe Foundation. The Foundation gathered together four leading experts from China, the US, Brazil and the EU, along with four prominent European commentators to discuss the important global shifts. Speakers included: Sylvie Goulard, Sun Yan, John Knight, Michael Hudson, Paola Subacchi, Alfredo Valladao, Christine Rifflart, Michel Aglietta, Gianluca Susta and Guy Verhofstadt.

The event was organised with the financial support of the European Parliament. 

 
Mario Monti wins European Leadership Award

Mario Monti, Prime Minister of Italy and Board Member of the Madariaga - College of Europe Foundation, was recently awarded the European Leadership Award by the European Voice. The former European Commissioner was awarded the prize for bringing Italy back to the heart of the European debate, for his grasp of the eurozone's current woes and for showing political sensitivity tp and awareness of the impact of austerity. As the European Voice put it: "Too many leaders, when dealing with European issues, shirk the task of explanation... Leaders have failed to spell out the advantages of the European Union, to build courage and conviction... Monti's leadership set an example to others in the EU that they should have the courage and take the time to explain."
