The specific crisis of the eurozone, in the broader context of the systemic crisis of Western capitalism, and the rise of emerging economies – particularly China – are questioning the role of Europe in the present international political and economic order. Is the European integration project endangered by the difficulty of bringing eurozone governance to a convincing level in terms of efficiency and of democratic legitimacy, and by political divisions that cross the EU27? Is a gradual approach still effective to strengthen European integration? May the Union be overtaken by the return of nationalism?

Quels sont les risques des petits pas dans un monde qui change vite ?

La crise spécifique de l’eurozone dans le contexte plus large de crise systémique du capitalisme occidental, et la montée en puissance des économies émergentes – Chine en tête – remettent en question la place de l’Europe dans le nouvel ordre politique et économique international. Le projet d’intégration européenne est-il mis en danger par la difficulté à porter la gouvernance de l’eurozone à un niveau convaincant en termes d’efficacité et de légitimité démocratique, et par les divisions politiques qui traversent l’UE 27 ? Une approche graduelle est-elle encore efficace afin de renfoncer cette intégration? L’Union ne risque-t-elle pas d’être rattrapée par le retour du sentiment nationaliste?
