| Is the EU on the Right Track with Financial Regulation? |
|
12:30 - Thursday, 9 July 2009 The last European Council conclusions and Ecofin orientations raise the question of whether the EU is on the right track to come up with a robust and efficient regulatory and supervisory financial system, consistent with liquidity, deposit guarantee schemes and the bailout provisions of trans-border banks, within both the Eurozone and the EU. In particular, is there a cost for the whole EU in terms of financial stability and efficiency stemming from accomodating the City's requirements in its race with Wall Street? This Citizen's Controversy with Alexandre Lamfalussy, European Economist, and Nicolas Véron, Research Fellow at Bruegel, was held on 9 July 2009. |
