| L'Europe pèsera-t-elle plus dans l'OTAN de demain? |
|
12:30 - Wednesday, 17 June 2009 In the light of the NATO summit 3-4 April 2009 in Strasbourg/Kehl, this upcoming Citizen's Controversy focused on the question of whether and how Europe can develop a stronger voice in a reformed NATO. With the launching of a process to advance a new Strategic Concept defining NATO's long-term future, the admission of Croatia and Albania into the Alliance, and the return of France into its military structures, the Strasbourg summit opened the door to a stronger and more coordinated European voice within NATO. But will, and should, the European members seize this opportunity and speak as one on issues as far reaching as Eastern enlargement, transformation of NATO's military structures, and relations between NATO, the EU, Washington and Moscow? With Ambassador Benoît d'Aboville, Former French Ambassador to NATO (2001-2005), and Jean-Luc Dehaene, President of the Administrative Council of the College of Europe, Member of the European Parliament. The debate was moderated by Christine Roger, Ambassador, Representative of France to the Political and Security Committee (PSC) and to the Western European Union (WEU). |
