28 December 2007 The Hendrik Brugmans Memorial Lectures were established in 1996 thanks to the generosity of College of Europe Alumni, and more particularly, those of the first 22 promotions of the College who studied during the rectorship of Hendrik Brugmans. Each year an eminent speaker from fields of politics, academia or culture is invited to present his views on a European theme. The Brugmans Lectures are organised jointly with the College of Europe and the Alumni Association. |

13:00 - Wednesday, 26 September 2007 The Madariaga European Foundation (MEF) and the EastWest Institute (EWI) convened a half-day expert meeting in London on 27 September 2007 at the Foreign Press Association to promote the idea of improved and more efficient trans-border energy cooperation in the South Caspian Region. Attended by experts form the public and the private sector, the meeting focused on challenges of competing interests of neighbouring Caspian States and discussed the possibilities of energy cooperation in the region. 23:00 - Wednesday, 25 April 2007 Dr. Ioannis Samouilidis, DG Energy and Transport, European Commission The Conference "Energy and Conflict: Current Controversies" at the French Petroleum Institute (IFP), 26 April in Paris, gathered over sixty energy experts from businesses, European Institutions, embassies, international organisations and NGOs. Panellists included experts such as Stein Tonnesson, Director of the Peace Research Institute in Oslo, Ali Asghar Soltanieh, Iranian Ambassador to the IAEA, and Leonid Grigoriev, President of the Institute for Energy and Finance. The event was openend with a forewarning on current confrontations over nuclear energy policies. Also, as competition over scarce energy resources is growing, the risk of current tensions spilling over into conflicts is elevated. |
